Bikini Islands
Bikini Islands is a Pittsburgh based rock group consisting of vocalist and guitarist Kyle Wacker, lead guitarist Jeff Leichter, bassist Josh Cortina, and drummer and vocalist Eric Neugebauer. Slinging surfy rock licks and pop hooks sure to be stuck in your head for weeks, this quartet prides itself on a raw live performance that has as much energy as it does smarts. Bill Toms and Hard Rain
“Bill Toms is a poet, a soul-shouter and guitar slinger with one foot in the gutter and an eye on the heavens above. And man, does he front a great rock n' soul band!” - Will Kimbrough The creative compulsion to write songs that stir emotion, challenge the mind, and move the tail feathers of the audience is undeniably unique in music today. His performances have become legendary in sheer power and passion. Rock and roll, soul, blues, and gospel so deep the earth moves, and the walls begin shakin’ as Bill Toms and his band start the train rollin. American music never sounded so good. He joined Pittsburgh’s legendary band, Joe Grushecky and The Houserockers, as lead guitarist in 1987. The band’s meteoric rise into the professional music scene enabled Bill to tour the United States and Europe repeatedly. While with Joe Grushecky and the Houserockers he opened for and played with a long and impressive list of notables, such as The Band, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Little Feat and Stevie Ray Vaughn. During his 20 years of playing guitar, co-writing, and singing back-up vocals for the Houserockers, Toms recorded six studio albums and one live concert album. Bonnie & the Mere Mortals
Made up of four Pittsburgh musicians from vastly different backgrounds, Mere Mortals is the product of songwriter Bonnie Ramone’s attempt to rationalize the dichotomy of the farm in a backwoods coal town she grew up on with the Goth scene she used to “make it out” and into the city. Blending Appalachian folk with a mixture of New Wave, industrial, and shoegaze, Mere Mortals is self-described as “Southern Gothic.” The band is made up of guitarist and banjo player Bonnie, guitarist and synth player Destin LeCornu, upright bassist Mike Simms, and synth and beat maker Sam Phillips; all of them lending their own vocal stylings. Each musician adds their own unique flair to the juxtaposition of analog and digital that sounds fresh, yet catchy and eeriely familiar. After returning to songwriters like Gillian Welch, Bonnie realised Depeche Mode and Nick Cave might have more in common with Patsy Cline and Johnny Cash than one might think; Heartbreak, drugs, murder ballads, depression, love, the color black... the stories stay the same. Dan Getkin and the Twelve Six
Dan Getkin fronts a rocking alternative-country group from Pittsburgh, joined by Bill Brandt (guitar), Alex Herd (bass), Eddan Sparks (drums), and Jake Troxell (keys). These are energetic songs, songs with passion, songs that will lift the roof off of the house. With a strong sense of melody, Getkin builds each tune from a stripped-down skeleton into a frenetic rocker.
